RE: Serious Question

....Of course, when the Queen of England invites me to tea at Buckingham Palace, I guess I'll have to break down and iron my Bibs and wear a bow tie.. I wouldn't want to be uncouth, don't you know... :) :)
John
I enjoyed your post, John.
And you could never be uncouth! ;)

RE: Gardasil being investigated -- linked to 18 deaths?

I find it rediculus that people are dying and becomming disabled by this drug...Actually, there is no proof that this drug had anything to do with those deaths/disabilities.
Bottom line for me is we have to weigh the chance of an adverse reaction (there are for ANY vaccination) vs. the chance of getting the cancer it protects for. In other words, how many people will die of the cancer vs. the # who will die from the vaccination?
You're right, of course. It's always risk vs. benefits in situations like this.
I remember discussing the vaccination here when it was first available. The issue at that time was whether or not it should be required.
My family benefited from several new and controversial drugs over the years, and I'm not one to buy into most of the sensational stories we hear about so many new things.

RE: How did you spend your 4th of July?

Our campground was packed.
Had a great 4th weekend celebrating our freedom by setting up table in front of our site for kids to write/draw notes for mailing to our troops in combat zones. Was a BIG hit.

Neat photo, Kate...and the perfect way to celebrate the Holiday.
I'm betting the kids had a wonderful time doing that! Nice! :)

RE: Gardasil being investigated -- linked to 18 deaths?

I didn't think the CDC linked the deaths to the drug yet. It was speculated.
This was my thought, as well.
When the vaccine first came out, it seemed logical to me to "wait and see," too. There certainly was no big rush, and it takes a long trial to know the long term results.

RE: Texas campgrounds

We live in the Denton area.
The Hickory Creek COE Park, just off I35 on Lake Lewisville, is beautiful! The sites on the cove are great...I think the numbers are in the 80's or 90's. You can find a map of the park on-line.

RE: Serious Question

The last person I knew who wore them was down-to-earth, friendly and outgoing...so that's probably what I would think if I saw you. :)
I'd probably smile and speak to you before I would to someone all spiffed up, simply because I would see you as approachable, interesting, and comfortable.

RE: How did you spend your 4th of July?

......We were SURPRISED! The campground was less than 1/2 full. Talked to one of the hosts and she said that they were shocked. Usually the 4th (any holiday) is packed out! Just wondering if the price of fuel is the reason???
Here in South TX, South Llano River State Park was at capacity for the weekend before the 4th--Buckhorn RV Resort had only a few spots empty for the weekend of the 4th, but was pretty cleared out today.

RE: How did you spend your 4th of July?

Gave my son a couple bottles, ate a huge picnic lunch with the family at the hospital. He hit four pounds yesterday for me and manage to poop and pea on his mom twice.. quite a birthday present. Usually I'm on the receiving end of it. Watched fireworks and had some ice cream later on. Today we found out he may come home in a week or two. Best birthday/4th weekend to date!!
The best one, by far! Good luck to you and yours.
Absolutely! :)

RE: How did you spend your 4th of July?

We spent our July 4th at Buckhorn RV Park in Kerrville, TX, with some wonderful friends we met here at RV.net. There was a nice barbecue for the campers, and a great fireworks show, too.
The 4th just happened to fall within the couple of weeks we traveled. The first part, we were in South Llano River State Park, a beautiful place.
I wouldn't say that traffic was any better or worse than any other summer week around here and restaurants were fine, too. We are having a really good time!

RE: Another truck was stolen

....I don't like thieves but I also don't like this kind of profiling. When a vehicle gets stolen, it may (or in this case may not be) just about anyone doing the stealing.
And I would agree with you!
Frankly, I'm surprised the Mods have let this ridiculous thread run as long as it has. :R
(By the way, I have parked many times near the Riverwalk in San Antonio with no problem and I will still do so.)

RE: Old movie memories

It was 1962, and the memory is faint.
You can get that movie on Netflix.
You could also see about owning a copy via imdb.com website, or Amazon.com
At your age.....your memory is faint, all right, Joe! :B
Happy 4th to you!
(Ebay is good for checking old movies, too....)

RE: Guess some people just can't be responsible campers

I find if I keep occupied with normal events such things don't bother me.
Excellent comment. :)
We don't full time, but we have traveled and camped a lot. I can't remember coming across anyone who annoyed me enough to complain or converse with a fellow camper about something we didn't like. We have stayed up to a week at a time in one place, all types.
My thought is that a positive outlook and a sense of humor go a long way, and that we generally get what we expect from life.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

"No longer will anyone who knows the Old Fella story look at another old stray dog the same as they have in the past. Compassion is the word I would use to describe Old Fella’s second chance at life, compassion that reaches out beyond understanding and reasoning to give life another chance at happiness. Don’t pass up the blessings in life just because what you see isn’t beautiful on the outside, because what may be on the inside could be the greatest treasure you will ever find."
Richard, this is lovely, and describes the change you have made in me. I admit that I would not have picked up that "old stray"...but I will take the next one home because of you and Old Fella.
The pics you have posted today of OF are wonderful.
And that dog at the shelter is beautiful...I, too, wonder about his story.

RE: Does anyone watch Swingtown

This is like asking if anyone watches "Big Love" or "Nip/Tuck." LOL
It's a gulity pleasure for some, I think, but politically correct "not" to watch it! :B
I doubt there's any show for everyone. :)

RE: This will eliminate a lot of weight

....As an aside to all who think it's expensive, I'd just like to say why I'm biting the bullet on the price: He's given so much to our 4 kids and never spent hardly anything on himself, that now, we have extra funds and since he's had a stroke already, I want him to have things that make his life as comfortable as possible. We can afford it, so why not?
Well, sure, if you can afford it and you want it...why not? :)
I feel the same way about a lot of things. It's all about choices.
The Kindle will come down in price quickly, and more and more books, magazines and newspapers will be available soon.

RE: This will eliminate a lot of weight

We have a good friend at church who is loosing his sight and needs large print and thought this might be something he'd like and could use. Does anyone know if the Bible is a choice to buy to download? I've sent him the info about these but was wondering about the Bible. Thanks!
My friend's Mom is in the same situation, but she solved it by getting her Mom a CD player and buying the Bible on CD's for her to listen to.
Her Mom loves it!
I've seen and held the Kindle (a neighbor sells them on his website), but it's not for me. I like to always have a paperback with me--the Kindle will not fit in my purse, and as expensive as it is, I'd be worried about losing it.
